गान्धर्व विवाह

गान्धर्वादिविवाहेषु पुनर्वैवाहिको विधिः

Following the Devala’s advice and removing the defects of it by making it “dharma pravravartana”, “gAndharva” is the best mode of vivAha.

Data Munging in the Big Data world

Recently, when NASA announced a competition on a large US government data sets’ data munging problem. It is called NITRD Big Data Challenge series @ http://community.topcoder.com/coeci/nitrd/
The first of the challenges was primarily about “How to create a homogeneous big-data dataset from large soloed data sets available with the multiple government departments such that some meaningful societal decisions can be derived from the knowledge generated from big data analytics”
So, the word coined almost a decade back “Data Munging” has come back into a key skill in today’s world of “Data Science” discipline.
What is data munging?
In simplest possible terms, it is making data that is generated in heterogeneous platforms/formats to a common processable format for further munging or analytics!
How is it deferent from ETL/data integration?
Data integration and ETL are fully automatic and programmed where as the munging involves semi automatic; based on human assisted machine learning algorithms.
Why is it important now?
As the massively parallel processing paradigm based on map reduce and other so called “big data” technologies, it is a key thing now how the existing vast amounts of “data” be made available for such kind of processing to derive the knowledge by the means of analytic and machine learning algorithms.
There is an emergence of start-ups trying to generate platforms and tools for data munging are now in the market. In my opinion, this is going to be a key “skill” in future big data based “Data Science” discipline.
So, if you have good skills in data and algorithms based on assisted machine learning for manipulation then go for it!

దుర్గా తత్త్వం

In the mantras she is the tArakatvam i.e., mAtRka; In the sabdAs (sounds) she is the meaningful knowledge. In the knowledge she is the bliss! In the emptiness she is  the witness. 
 
for whom, there is nothing beyond; SHE is praised as “DurgA” 
 
Durga, difficult to attain, who is destroyer of durAcAra (bad ways of living)
I bow down being afraid of birth (again!) to thee; Thou alone can rescue me from the ocean of unending births and deaths! 

అపూర్వ "భారతీ" కోశం

अपूर्वः कोऽपि कोशोऽयं विद्यते तव भारती ।
व्ययतो वृद्धिमायाति क्षयमायाति सञ्चयात् ॥

BhAratI! ayaM tava kOSaH kO’pi apUrvaH vidyatE. (yat ayaM) vyayataH vRddhim AyAti. (ayaM) sanjcayAt kshyaM AyAti.

O BharatI (godess of knowledge), the treasure (of knowledge) is very strange. It gorws by spending and saving causes to diminish.

యా దేవీ సర్వ భూతేషు విద్యా రూపేణ సంస్థితా
నమస్తస్యై నమస్తస్యై నమస్తస్యై నమోనమః

The dEvI who is established in all the beings (not only humans!) as the capacity of knowing; I bow down to her; I bow down to her; I bow down to her again and again.

The nine divine nights at the beginning of “Sarat” Rtu – ASvayuja mAsam Sukla paksha is the sarannavarAtri.

Rta (ఋత, ऋत) means the divine order, that which appears to change in a controlled manner within the satyam (సత్యం, सत्यं) which is unchanging reality. In the samvatsara (సంవత్సర, संवत्सर) a year in which the light and darkness, heat and cold, rain and shine all become equal proportions is satyam. Whereas the Rtu (ఋతు, ऋतु) vasanta, grIshma, varsha, sarat, hEmanta, SiSira appearntly change from pleasent spring, summer, rainy, pleasent sarat, autumn and finally cold winter signify birth, childhood, growth, youth, middle age, old age and death. So the body + mind + intellect is called as Rtumantam (ఋతుమంతం) that which changes thereby makes one enjoy the various aspects of the life’s satyam.

After vasanta, grishma, varsha Rtus (chaitra, vaiSakha, jyesTha, AshADha, SrAvaNa, bhAdrapada months) starting Asvayuja month the SaradRtu will start which is half way mark in the samvatsara. So Sarat Rtu is equavalat of youth of the body where one should devote a good amount of time in worshipping godess of power i.e, Sakthi (శక్తి, शक्ति). It is symbolically represented as navarAtri in the middle of the year.

Sakti or dEvI worship conquer over the internal daemonic forces like madhu-kaiTabha (one drop of honey and several insects around it) that symbolizes the “I” and several “mine” (ahamkAra and mamakAra), sumbha-nisumbha i.e, kAma – krOdha and mahishAsura the animal nature called “lust”

So, mArkanDEya purANa – dEvI mahAtmyam states the importance of yearly sarat kAla pUja:

शरत्काले महापूजा क्रियते या च वार्षिकी ।
तस्यां ममैतान्महात्म्यं श्रुत्वा भक्ति समन्वितः ॥

So, what is the way one should carryout this puja. The best is (as per Siva purANa) :

శ్రోత్రేణ శ్రవణం తస్య వచసా కీర్తనం తథా
మనసా మననం తస్య మహాసాధనముచ్యతే
SrOtrENa SravaNam tasya vacasA kIrtanam tathaa
manasA mananaM tasya mahAsAdhanamucyatE

Hearing about his/her stories by ears, talking about his/her greatness by the voice
remembering his/her lIlAs by the mind is called the greatest sAdhana.

If this is not possible (to concentrate that way) it is possible to carryout nine different alankaaraas every day and worship the godess on all the nine days. That signifies only the alankaara changes but the underlying dEvI tattvam is always the TRUTH which is unchanging in nature.

Let the grace of godess durga dEvi be on one and all! Happy Sarad-navarAtri to one and all!!

तत्सदाहमिति मौनमाश्रये ॥

जन्ममृत्युसुखदुःखवर्जितं
जातिनीतिकुलगोत्रदूरगम् ।
चिद्विवर्तजगतोऽस्य कारणं
तत्सदाहमिति मौनमाश्रये ॥

Oracle database 12c

I have been seeing Oracle database form 6, 7, 8i, 9i, 10g, 11g and now it is going to be called 12c – c as in Cloud. OOW12 revealed the new architecture. (there was no tail for 6 and 7…. i stood for internet, g for Grid….. )

The new release with a fundamental architectural change to the data dictionary that gives a concept of “Pluggable Database” – PDB over the standard oracle system “Container Database” – CDB.

The obj$ of Oracle database dictionary will contain all the information of objects in the current architecture.  It is being split into CDB and PDB going forward for easing the “multi-tenant” private cloud databases.

This fundamental seperation of the data dictionary provides
a. Better security of multiple “databases” on the same instance
b. Seperation of CDB from other PDBs will allow easy upgrades.
c. All PDBs will share the instance and overall management of the consolidated database should be much simpler.

Excited about the cloud enabled, multi-tenant, pluggable database from Oracle! 

So, let us wait and see when the stable 12.2 will come out to roll out the new database into production….

పశ్చాత్తాపం – paScAttApam

పశ్చాత్తాపః పాపకృతాం పాపానాం నిష్కృతిః పరా
సర్వేషాం వర్ణితం సద్భిః సర్వపాప విశోధనం

పశ్చాత్తాపేనైవ శుద్ధిః ప్రాయశ్చిత్తం కరోతి సః
యథోపదిష్టం సద్భిర్హి సర్వపాప విశోధనం
— శివ పురాణ మహత్మ్యము అధ్యాయం – 3 శ్లోకం 5, 6

paScAttApaH pApakRtAM pApAnAM nishkRtiH parA
sarvEshAM varNitaM sadbhiH sarvapApa viSOdhanam

paScAttApEnaiva SuddhiH prAyaScittam karOti saH
yathOpadishTam sadbhirhi sarvapApa viSOdhanam

— Siva purANa mahatmyamu adhyAyam – 3 SlOkam 5, 6

The highest nullifier of sinful deeds is paScAttApam (= the heat generated by repentence ). For all, (the ill effects of) all pApAs are purified by paScAttApa; this was indicated by wise men.

Having purified by paScAttApa, one carries out prAyaScittam ( = heartfelt regret towards harm caused by the thought, word or deed ) by prAyaScittam suggested by wisemen,  the ill impacts of sins will be completely removed.

Hence, the paScAttApam and prAyaScittam should go together by the one who has committed the sinful actions. By listening to the satkathas (of purAnAs like SrI Siva mahA purANa) alone the paScAttApa arises!
